Photo-etched optical encoder discs can be used for any application that requires precision positioning. These stiff discs with radial slits are available in a wide variety of line counts, tracks, and materials, including stainless steel, nickel, and beryllium copper. They can also be blackened to make them anti-reflective in light-sensitive applications. Anvil mounting is also available.
PEI is able to produce encoder discs with extremely small slot resolution (line widths as small as 0.004 in. [0.10 mm], in a wide range of thicknesses depending on the encoder specifications. Tolerances can typically be held within 10% of the material thickness. Since PEI makes its own phototools in-house and uses a chemical photo-etching process, we can manufacture highly-accurate optical encoders with exact repeatability from one slot to the next.
